Chris Leyden is a student at the University of Maryland College Park double majoring in journalism and government & politics. Now in his senior year, Chris still has no idea which career path he is going to take.
Chris has had a variety of interesting experience in both fields. On the journalism side, Chris has interned at CBS News, ESPN980, the ESPN radio affiliate in Washington, D.C., and at The Trentonian, a daily newspaper in Trenton, N.J. Chris also worked at The Diamondback, the daily publication at the University of Maryland, as a multimedia reporter.
On the government side, Chris has interned in the office of both his local state senator (Tom Goodwin) and in the office of his governor, Chris Christie. Not much into politics until he arrived inside the Beltway, Chris has used these political experiences to learn a lot about the inner-workings of the government.
On a more personal note, Chris spends his free time watching sports, mainly the NHL’s New York Islanders and the NFL’s New York Jets. Born and raised until he was 12 on Long Island, Chris currently resides in Cranbury, N.J. He can often be found playing roller hockey in the street in front of his house.

Mark Sanchez is a junior journalism and English double major at the University of Maryland. Hailing from New Jersey, Mark is honing his journalism skills with an internship at USA Weekend, a national weekend newspaper magazine distributed to more than 47 million readers every weekend, as well as serving as assistant managing editor at the official independent newspaper of the University of Maryland, The Diamondback.
In the past, he has interned at The West Orange Chronicle, a weekly town newspaper, The Picatinny Voice, the bi-weekly newspaper of the military base Picatinny Arsenal, Turtle Sports Report, the Scout.com page of The University of Maryland, in addition to previously serving as a copy editor for The Diamondback.
When he is not breaking news or correcting an AP Style error, Mark loves sports. While he played basketball, lacrosse and ran cross country in high school, Mark is mostly relegated to the sidelines these days. A fan of New York sports - the Jets, Yankees and Knicks – Mark can be found cheering on his favorite teams, especially Maryland’s collegiate squads. Though, cheering for the University of Maryland’s football team can be challenging at times.
